Perfect Strangers is an American sitcom that ran for eight seasons from 1986 through 1993 on ABC. It chronicles the rocky coexistence of Larry Appleton (Mark Linn-Baker) and his distant cousin Balki Bartokomous (Bronson Pinchot). Originally airing on Tuesdays and then Wednesdays in prime time, the show eventually found its niche as an anchor for ABC's original TGIF Friday night lineup. It eventually produced a spin-off, Family Matters, in 1989.

The series chronicles the rocky coexistence of Larry Appleton (Mark Linn-Baker) and his distant cousin Balki Bartokomous (Bronson Pinchot). A Wisconsin native, Larry has just moved into a new apartment in Chicago when Balki, a hitherto unknown cousin from an island in the Mediterranean called Mypos, drops by to live with him. Balki, a sheepherder by trade, interprets what little he knows about the United States by relying on his own recollections of American pop culture, which are often out-of-context ("America... Land of my dreams, home of the Whopper"). Balki's signature is his "Dance of Joy", a cross between a Dosado and the Hokey Pokey that Balki performs in celebration of good fortune.

Larry, an aspiring photographer, decides to take Balki under his wing and teach him about American life. Frequently, however, the neurotic Larry proves to be equally if not more inept in this respect than Balki. Major influences on the show include "buddy sitcoms" such as Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy, both of which were produced by the same team which went on to oversee Perfect Strangers.

One of the most famous American television shows that ran from the year 1986 till the year 1993 is the Perfect Strangers. Running on the ABC television network and created by Dale Mc Rayen, the perfect strangers showcases the lives of Larry Appleton played by Mark Linn Baker and Balki Bartokomous, played by Bronson Pinchot. Larry who used to live with a big family and several brothers and sisters in Wisconsin, moves to live in Chicago, Illinois in a new apartment. This is when he realises that how wonderful the sense of privacy is. However, his joy does not last a very long time.

Soon, Balki his distant cousin and a shepherd by profession come to share his apartment from Mypos in the Mediterranean. The twists and turns in their lives kept the viewers engrossed in the show. Balki is not much aware of the American culture and has his own interpretation of the same. Larry decides to share his knowledge with him.

The airing of the show, the Perfect Strangers changed a lot on the television. Initially, it was aired on Tuesdays. The first season of six episodes was shown on this day. However, the midseason in the year 1986 it moved to Wednesday and remained there till March 1988. Later, the show was aired on Friday night. This was the time when the show gained the maximum popularity because it was the opening show for TGIs Friday night line-up of shows on ABC television. The show perfect stranger was also aired on Saturdays for a short span of time.

The show finally came to an end on August 6, 1993 after showing for eight seasons starting from March 15, 1986. The show was created mainly by Dale Mc Rayan, who is also behind the show Mork and Mindy. The show perfect stranger was produced by Tom Miller and Robert Boyett. Initially, the idea of showcasing comedy about an immigrant from the Mediterranean was rejected by the three major television networks. According to Tom Miller, the show Perfect Strangers was finally accepted mainly because of the 1984 summer Olympics in Los Angeles that renewed patriotic feeling amongst Americans. S
