The Johnny Cash Show was an American television music variety show presented by Johnny Cash. The 58-episode series ran from June 7, 1969 to March 31, 1971 on ABC. The show reached no. 17 in the Nielsen ratings in 1970.

Johnny Cash opened the show each time, and its regulars included members of his touring troupe, June Carter Cash (his wife) and the Carter Family, The Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins, and The Tennessee Three, with Australian-born musical director-arranger-conductor Bill Walker. The Statler Brothers performed brief comic interludes.

It featured many folk/country musicians of the time, such as Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, Kris Kristofferson, Mickey Newbury, Neil Young, Merle Haggard, James Taylor and Tammy Wynette. It also featured other musicians such as jazz great, Louis Armstrong, who died eight months after recording the show.

he show started with an hour-long tryout offered by the ABC as "a summer replacement for their Saturday Night variety extravaganza The Hollywood Palace.  While Cash had a large degree of freedom, he "had to accept some compromises by hosting showbiz royalty like Bob Hope, George Gobel, Kirk Douglas, Burl Ives, Peggy Lee and Lorne Greene. They gave the show gravitas that satisfied both advertisers and the network".

The show was recorded at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, then home of the Grand Ole Opry. The first show featured Joni Mitchell, Cajun fiddler Doug Kershaw, Fannie Flagg as a comic, and Bob Dylan.

The Johnny Cash show DVD complete series collection with all episodes and seasons on DVDs

The Johnny Cash Show was a 60-minutes American music show aired on ABC from June 7, 1969 to March 31, 1971. Hosted by Johnny Cash, besides certain controversies, the show was very popular and reached the 17th spot in Nielsen ratings in 1970. After its 58 episodes the show was dumped as a result of rural purge, a series of cancellations during 1970 and 1971.

The show was opened with the regular members, most of them appeared on all the 58 episodes including Cash, his wife June Carter Cash, The Tennessee Three, The Statler Brothers who performed a brief funny introduction, Carl Parkinson and the musical director Bill Walker. The versatile nature of these members had gelled together and provided the audience an appreciable variety in the show. Bill Carruthers who had originally conceived the show also served as the executive produces as well as the producer for the starting season. Stan Jacobson was the producer and Myles Harmon was the program executive. The recording of the show was carried out at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, but later it was recorded home of the Grand Ole Opry.

The show was first started as a replacement to The Hollywood Palace on Saturday nights. Joni Mitchell, Cajun fiddler Doug Kershaw, and Bob Dylan were the guests of the first episode. Fannie Flagg also featured as a comedian. Johnny Cash was given plenty of freedom to run the show in his own style. However, he had to make conciliations on hosting a few of the kingpins of showbiz including Burl Ives, George Gobel, Kirk Douglas, Peggy Lee, Bob Hope and Lorne Greene. The addition of these noble figures gave the show sobriety and seriousness which pleased the network as well as the advertisers.

The uniqueness of the show was due to the featuring of countless folk-country artists besides other musicians, including Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, Kris Kristofferson, Mickey Newbury, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Merle Haggard, James Taylor and Tammy Wynette. One of the more famous segments of the show was “Country Gold” in which appeared the legends like Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys, who otherwise had not been aired on television.
